Purchased as bare body. Donor car for engine and running gear is a 1965 Midget. Finished car will have front-flip bonnet, front disc brakes, wire wheels, rebuilt 1275 engine with Datsun 5-speed gearbox, later instruments, negative ground, alternator, and high-torque starter. Obviously not a slave to originality.

Lovely! Can I come for a ride when it is back on the road?More seriously. The rear axle is probably still mounted on 2 quarter elliptical springs mounted on the chassis. Good enough for the original car but you will have nearly twice the power and twice the torque of the original engine. SO....The the state of the springs. They will be a bit worn so you may want to replace them . Also where they mount on the axle. Regarding the latter, give it an overhaul and replace the oil (minimum).Modern tyres are much better than those available 60 years ago so don't worry about fitting larger wheels etc. Just make sure the tyres have good wet grip and are not old stock. The rubber gets hard and loses its wet grip over time.Good Luck!
